Stamps with a Newport Connection

25 August 1971 - Rugby stamp in the British anniversaries series shows a player in the Newport colours - no special Gwent postmark.



10 July 1974 – Henry V , Monmouth's most famous son, from the series “Famous Men in British History” - no special Gwent postmark.



Air letter issued in 1989 that shows a view of Tintern Abbey



25 February 1992 – Stamp booklet celebrating Wales – included a picture of Tintern Abbey and the logo for the Ebbw Vale Garden Festival





15 June 1993 - Caerleon button stamp in Roman Britain series - there were two Caerleon postmarks in connection with this issue, one from the Philatelic Bureau and the other from Benham's





20 July 1993 - Monmouth and Brecon Canal in British waterways series - Benham's produced a special first day of issue postmark for this issue

 



Although not connected with Newport, the 1995 stamps showing cats resulted in two more Benham's postmarks for Gwent, for Catsash and Catbrook





The RNLI commissioned a postmark in connection with the Great Tudors series issued on 21 January 1997 at Six Bells, Abertillery



On 23 June 1988, there were three postmarks from Tredegar and one from Ebbw Vale in connection with the National Health stamp issue.

A further Ebbw Vale postmark was produced on 5 July 1998












For the Millennium series, a postmark appeared for the Patent Office , Newport (Inventors Tale) on 12 January 1999 and for Tredegar (Patients Tale) on 2 March 1999





Buckingham Covers produced a further postmark for Catsash in connection with the Cats booklet issued on 13 February 2001, although the name was written as "Cats Ash".



Royal Mail produced a cancel for Christchurch, Newport in connection with the 2006 Christmas issue (1 November 2006)



Royal Mail produced a cancel for the Greeting Stamps issued on 28 February 2008 for British, Talywain, Pontypool



28 February 2008 – The Houses of Lancaster and York set included Henry V on one first class stamp and the miniature sheet included a scene from the Battle of Agincourt. Henry V was born in Monmouth Castle and Newport Civic Centre has a scene from Agincourt as one of its murals



No Gwent day of issue postmark but special postmark from Monmouth Castle from 21 March 2008.





The Glorious Wales sheet issued on St David's Day (1 March 2007) that includes labels for the Second Severn Crossing Bridge and Tintern Abbey, in English and Welsh.





26 February 2009 – Celebrating Wales Presentation pack includes one illustration showing St David in a stained glass window at St Woolo's Cathedral, Newport



1 March 2010 – Castles of Wales – sheet includes a label for Chepstow Castle.
